Unable to connect to Google: VM Lite, 8.4.1

I just installed VueMinder after seeing it on CNET.
I get the following error message when I try to add a google calendar. I can log into google successfully directly and I cut and paste my email and password from my security software to VM.
I have looked at the other threads with this problem and have:
* Turned off my firewall (Norton 360)
* Verified my email and password (noted above)
* Tried to remove and reinstall VM, but I'm not sure if the uninstall actually worked? I'll try it again.
I've lost track of everything I've tried.

Sorry, VueMinder Calendar is unable to connect to google calendar...
sometimes I get another error message before this, but I didn't this time.

Hi davidk, welcome to the forums. The message you’re seeing can sometimes be caused by the proxy settings, specified under the Options menu. If you don’t use a proxy server, make sure the box to use a proxy is unchecked. Otherwise, try using the same settings your web browser uses.

I had Google set up with the 2 stage verification. Once I turned that off I successfully added the Google Calendar. Now to reset the 2 stage verification with the application based password and I should be fine.
