Google sync help

Post by apelec » Mon Aug 20, 2018 3:47 am

How do I get out of this issue:

a while back I disabled google sync. Recently I got a new android phone and changed my google password.
I re-enable sync but alas nothing, I then

1. remove VM cal from google,
2. remove the App access
3. done the disable enable google sync

There is no indication of any activity from VM. Google does not ask if VM App is authorized and no new calendar is created.

help please

I think I cracked it. I had to remove sharing with other computer.

My set up must unconventional however why should it affect Google sync?

I'm not sure. I'll investigate further to see if I can duplicate the problem.

Well not quite cracked.

What I would like:

SQL is on a Linux server, users are on a Windows domain, VM Ultimate
User1 uses three PC, PC1 is permanently on, PC2 & PC3 on when needed
User2 use only PC4

User1 and User2 share their Cal
User1 and User2 sync to their respective Google accounts

The current situation:
SQL is on a Linux server.
User1 on PC1,2,3

User2 (my wife) is not yet implemented as she would not cope with the issues
AFAICT Google sync correctly two ways with PC1

PC1 dB is correct
PC2 and PC3 are a subset of PC1

For some reason the calendar names differ

on PC1
AE
PAM Calendar
Notes
My Tasks
PAM Jobs
Pierre List

on PC2
My Tasks
PAM Jobs
AE has vanished, many events missing, some events on PC1 appear as tasks on PC2, no Notes

on PC3
My Calendar
Pierre's Calendar
My Tasks
PAM Jobs
My Notes
Notes
many events are missing, some events on PC1 appear as tasks on PC3

I don't know exactly how I arrived at this situation but I have struggled with shared from the onset.

I can no longer trust my system.

I have wasted so much time to get this system working, methinks it is probably quicker to start again from scratch.

Could you please give me a procedure to:
Backup PC1 db & preferences
delete VM data on mySQL
delete data PC2 and PC3

Restore the database & Preferences on PC1and the correct way to duplicate on PC2, 3 and configure shares as I would like at the top of this message.

many thanks

I think the issue is due to syncing with both MySQL Server and Google Calendar. If you need your event calendars on Google Calendar then my recommendation would be to not sync your event calendars with MySQL Server at all. Just sync your event calendars with Google Calendar. You would still use MySQL Server for sharing Notes and Tasks, since those don't sync between Google accounts.

Please try these steps:
1. On the computer where the correct notes and tasks appear, use the "F ile -> Export" menu commands to export those calendars. I assume the correct events are on Google calendar, so don't bother with exporting the event calendars.
2. On each computer, exit VueMinder and run the utility linked below to reset the local data:
http://www.vueminder.com/download/ResetData.zip
3. Run MySQL Workbench to connect to MySQL Server. Drop the schema named "vueminder".
4. Restart VueMinder on one of your computers.
5. Open the Sharing Options and re-enter your host name, username, and password.
6. Click the "File -> Add Calendar -> Add Google Calendar" menu command to add your Google calendars. Wait for the calendars to finish syncing.
7. Use the "File -> Import" menu commands to import your notes and tasks.
8. Open the Calendar Properties for your Notes and Tasks calendars and re-enable sharing through MySQL Server.
9. If your event calendars aren't already shared with your wife's Google account, open the Google Calendar webpage. Click the button next to your calendar name and enable sharing with your wife's account.
10. Start VueMinder on your other computers.
11. Open the Sharing Options and re-enter your host name, username, and password. Your notes and tasks should automatically appear.
12. Click the "File -> Add Calendar -> Add Google Calendar" menu command to add your Google calendars. Any changes you make to event calendars will sync through Google Calendar and appear on the other computers. Note, this can take up to 30 seconds. Changes to notes and tasks should appear on other computers within a few seconds.

Thank you Dan

before I proceed I have a few questions:

I cannot be 100% sure Google cal is correct, should I unsubscribe it and also export Events?

does the export/import restores all events links to contact and other items?

what is the difference between export and backup?

No need to disable syncing, but if there are some events in VueMinder that you think might not have synced to Google Calendar, use the "File -> Export -> Export Events" menu command to export those events. After performing step 6, import the file. Any events that didn't previously sync to Google Calendar will sync after importing.
does the export/import restores all events links to contact and other items?
Unfortunately, no.
what is the difference between export and backup?
Exporting will generate a file that contains a single calendar. Each calendar will need to be exported to a separate file. Since the export doesn't include other data, any links to other data will be lost if the data is reset and then imported. A backup will include ALL data (and links) and settings. However, since you said your data was screwed up and you thought it would be easier to start over, I suggested exporting instead of backing up and restoring, since it's likely the same problems would appear after restoring.

For me VM major USP are the various links that can be made, I could not afford to loose them all.

After T&E VM is now sharing correctly Events, Tasks and Contacts with my laptops and also sharing correctly with Google Cal, Tasks and Contacts and my phone.

I think this is the correct procedure

1. PC1 is the main desktop computer, make sure it is 100% correct

2. Remove computer and google shares

3. for safety take a backup of PC1 and exit PC1

4. On PC2 and PC3, exit VueMinder and run the utility linked below to reset the local data: http://www.vueminder.com/download/ResetData.zip

5. On google delete VM calendar, tasks and contacts

6. Run MySQL Workbench to connect to MySQL Server. Drop the schema named "vueminder".

7. For belt and braces, delete VM users and recreate User1, User2

8. Start PC1

9. on PC1 share host server User1

10. Start PC2 and PC3 and share host User1 and let sync

11. on PC1 share calendar and contacts with google

12. On Google task create a new list "G-VM Tasks"

13 on PC1, PC2, PC3 add Calendars/Google Task and pick "G-VM Tasks"

This was not an easy job by any means and perhaps the above could be the basis of a new FAQ. May be VM was not meant to have the same user using three different PC but it seems to work so far. :D

Thank you Dan for your guidance.
