Hi lets_go, welcome to the forums. If you have the desktop calendar displayed, there's a button at the top of the desktop calendar for creating new events. You can also double-click an empty area in a date on the desktop calendar to add a new event. See the documentation linked below:
http://www.vueminder.com/products/vuemi ... endar.html

If you don't want to use the desktop calendar, you could define a keyboard shortcut for creating new events. The shortcut can be specified via the "Options -> Hotkeys" menu command. Select the desired key combination for "Create a new event". When that combination of keys is pressed (such as Ctrl+Shift+E), a new event will be created - regardless of whether VueMinder is minimized or what program is currently active.

I hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
